Bike Kitchen

A long time enthusiast who enjoys riding a bike whenever possible, last year I realized I had never learned how to properly repair my own bike.  Fortunately, I discovered Smith College’s own Bike Kitchen, a student organization for bike activities, riding, and maintenance.
Each semester, Bike Kitchen rents dozens of bikes to Smith students to promote bike riding on and off campus.  There are weekly “Bike Fix’n” meetings, two-hour open sessions for students to learn how to repair and maintain their bike to be in safe riding condition.  In addition, the students join together for bike trips with other local college student bike groups.
This year I was appointed Treasurer, for which I am responsible for monitoring the group finances (student rental fees and purchases for tools and supplies).  I have also had a role in the organizations new working space.
